Big Eyed Fish 11. Bartender Editorial Reviews Amazon.com Dave Matthews doesn't exactly seem thrilled about this release. But how would you feel if you made an album with a producer you didn't like, dumped it, and then woke up one morning to find it leaked on the Internet and available at every bootleg stall in New York City? That's pretty much what happened with "The Lillywhite Sessions," the unreleased, darker predecessor to the blockbuster Everyday album. Rather than turn their back on the fans, however, Matthews and company returned to the studio to do the job right. On Busted Stuff , they revive those solemn songs with diligent intensity, creating lovely swaths of melancholy and transcendence. Elegant tracks like "Grace Is Gone" and "Digging a Ditch" replace the dreary gloss of the last album with dazzling intimacy, and even the band's usual tendency for meandering jazz-rock flights is kept in check by the sheer weight of the material. Impressive stuff, in spite of what Matthews apparently thinks. --Aidin Vaziri Album Description The brand new studio album from DAVE MATTHEWS BAND is an enhanced CD that includes 11 new songs. Although dissapointed with everyday, since i had downloaded the Lillywhite sessions, I knew that this would be a much better album than their previous album. But, for some reason I only listened to it a couple times before it moved to the shelf and began to collected dust. Now, after pulling it out just a couple weeks ago, I don't know why I ever put it away. Grace is Gone and Bartender are some obvious highlights, though i really like Raven, the chorus is just beautiful with the dark lyrics and pleading vocals. The variety and contrast of songs on this album may be the best ever from a DMB studio album, certainly up there with Before these Crowded streets, but I feel that this actually flows better than BTCS, though not quite as well as Crash and Under the Table and Dreaming. Anyways, my faith in the DMB is reaffirmed with this album, although of course the best experience is always seeing them live. It's great to experience his songwriting without the over embellishment of the studio,it becomes completely unatural and cluttered. The band have an amazing ability to naturally manufacture a huge sound without compressing the hell out of everything as was evident in 'Everyday'.'Busted Stuff' is a likeable return to similar ideas found on 'Crash'. The band are amazing. Was this review helpful to you? All Customer Reviews Avg. Customer Review: Write an online review and share your thoughts with other customers. A setback from Everyday, but it still DMB , March 5, 2003 Reviewer: WarmCider from Mitten State Busted Stuff is a great album for a band, but not for Dave Matthews Band. I felt that they made so much progress with Everyday, making their music even more original than before, so I was a little let down with Busted Stuff. Although, there are some great songs on this album. Here's the breakdown... Busted Stuff- It's a happier, more uplifting song. He seems content with the idea of someone "leaving his broken heart behind". I thought it would be released as a single, we'll see. Grey Street- Current single out w/ little airplay. Good, classic Dave song with original lyrics. Where Are You Going- Everyone should have heard this one by now. It was definitely made for a movie, that's it. You Never Know- Without a doubt, best song on this album, probably one of the bands best all together. Its brilliantly spoken, eye opening. Great live song as well. Captain- Its one of those songs that just fills in a record. Nothing special, nothing to pass by. Raven- Another good track. Classic Dave song telling one's exigent life. Grace Is Gone- Next best song. Moving lost love story unraveled. "I could never love again, so much as I loved you." Beautiful, this song makes it worth the buy. Kit Kat Jam- Is what it says. Digging A Ditch- This is a good song as well. It has Dave's signature mellow tone to it. Big Eyed Fish- Another highlight of this album. It exudes Dave's twisted, innovative lyrics depicting stories of depression turned tragic. Its the most upbeat sounding song on Busted Stuff. Bartender- Great, great song. Follows same suit as Grace is Gone. Was this review helpful to you? Solid CD from DMB , March 4, 2003 Reviewer: Elisa (see more about me) from CT, USA A solid CD from DMB... none of the songs leap off of the page, but a great driving CD... 'grace is gone' is a good tune. Was this review helpful to you? See all customer reviews...
